Lions named Khari Jones as their new offensive co-ordinator Monday. Jones joins the Lions after two seasons as the quarterbacks coach with the Grey Cup-champion Saskatchewan Roughriders. "Khari is a young, fresh football mind that brings a key combination of significant playing and coaching experience to the role of offensive co-ordinator," Lions head coach Mike Benevides said in a statement. "After a number of conversations with Khari over the past couple of weeks, I am very excited about his positive approach to the game, the offensive concepts he will bring to our offence and how they will translate on the field." Prior to joining the Riders, Jones served as Hamiltons offensive co-ordinator in 2011. Jones began his CFL coaching career as the Ticats quarterbacks coach in 09. Jones began his CFL playing career as a quarterback with the Lions in 97 before being dealt to Winnipeg in 2000. In 2001, Jones was named the leagues outstanding player after guiding the Bombers to a 14-4 regular-season record. Jones also played for Calgary (2004) and Hamilton (2005) and twice went to training camp with Edmonton before joining CBCs CFL broadcast crew in 2006. "Its an honour to return to the same organization that gave me an opportunity to play in this great league many years ago," said Jones. "There is a tremendous nucleus of great offensive players here led by Travis Lulay, who I believe is one of the elite quarterbacks in our league. "Im elated to be working with Mike as well as everyone on the offensive staff and I cant wait to get started on building a champion in B.C." Justin Ellis Jersey . Bayern struggled in the first half and conceded in the 44th minute, when a mistake from Jerome Boateng allowed Shawn Parker through to round Manuel Neuer. Goetze came on and set up Arjen Robben to equalize in the 50th, combined with Robben to set up Thomas Mueller two minutes later, and then crossed for Mario Mandzukic in the 69th. authenticraidersshop.com/Khalil-Mack-Raiders-Jersey . -- The offence was stagnant, Alex Smith was ineffective and the offensive line was completely overmatched.TORONTO – They stalked off the ice at Air Canada Centre with a look of resignation, defeated and beaten down from all that had transpired. The Leafs will miss the postseason for the seventh consecutive season, officially eliminated from contention with their 10th consecutive loss on home ice, a 3-0 defeat by Cam Ward and the Carolina Hurricanes. Their fate was officially sealed amidst a chorus of jeers on Tuesday night. "Its not a very good feeling to be eliminated," Dion Phaneuf said. "You start every year with one goal and thats to win and the first part of that is to make the playoffs and when youre out of that race its not a very good feeling." "How many games now has it been we havent been playing very good hockey?" Phil Kessel questioned of the slide. "I think everyone in here is disappointed." Their dramatic collapse began in early February with a loss to the Jets in Winnipeg and never ceased; a disastrous and unseemly string of 19 losses in 24 games. At no point in the turmoil were the Leafs able to steady the waters, only dipping further and further into the abyss of what will conclude as another lost season. "It snowballed on us," Phaneuf said. "We lost a lot of tight games and we just could not recover or find a way out of it as a group." The befuddling aspect is why and how a team could so lose its way. Gliding toward the playoffs for the better part of four months, the Leafs not only came undone but unraveled in a fashion that was furious and without end. A four-game losing streak evolved into a skid of 10 losses in 11 games, ultimately costing Ron Wilson his job. Randy Carlyle took the reins with the admitted intention of jumpstarting a downtrodden group, but even his presence could do little to alter the direction of a year gone astray. "Were not doing the little things right," Kessel said. "When that happens, you seem to lose games." Its clear that change is needed after such an unforeseen free-fall, but just how widespread is difficult to determine. A thin free agent market ensures a challenging job ahead for Brian Burke and his staff, who will meticulously scrutinize the roster components worth seizing and those which can be relinquished and ultimately replaced. An upgrade in goal along with improvements to the size and grit of the forward core are sure to be discussed. "We havent played well enough," Phaneuf concluded. "Its very disappointing as a group. Theres not much more to say, but were disappointed." Five Points 1. The Leafs last won at home on February 6 – a 10-game winless skid – when they beat the Oilers 6-3. Randy Carlyle was quite blunt in his assessment of the teams record in Toronto prior to Tuesdays game. "We have to demonstrate some more will, pride, passion, whatever, because this has gone on long enough," he said. "And that was our message after practice [on Monday] that its unacceptable to have the home record that we have right now." Only the Islanders, Canadiens and Blue Jackets have fewer wins at home than the Leafs, who also hold the longest home winless streak of any team this season. Repeating an assessment Wilson often uttered during points in his tenure, Carlyle noted in a change in his clubs performance at the ACC. "Whats happened is it seems to be more of an issue at home than it is on the road," he said. "We seem to play a more relaxed game on the road." Carlyle has won four games behind the Leafs bench (4-7-2), all coming away from Toronto. 2. 24-year-oldd Jussi Rynnas got his first taste of NHL action in rather uncomfortable circumstances. Authentic Justin Ellis Jersey. James Reimer was expected to start against the Hurricanes, but was "feeling ill" or perhaps a bit off in the early afternoon. "We were as surprised as anybody," Carlyle said, noting his impending departure from the arena upon hearing of Reimers trouble. "I walked by the training room and was informed that he wouldnt be available to us tonight." Exercising precaution – Reimer missed six weeks earlier this season with concussion-like symptoms – the Leafs turned to Jonas Gustavsson, who was hooked after three goals on 12 shots. Fourth on the organizations depth chart, Rynnas stepped in and stopped all 10 shots he faced. 3. Kessel is just three points from becoming the first Leaf since Mats Sundin in 2001-2002 to hit the 80-point plateau, but his offensive outburst is likely to be lost in the chaos of the Leafs collapse. "We play to make the playoffs and try to win the Stanley Cup," Kessel said. "It doesnt matter if you have a good individual season or not, were here to win as a hockey team and as an organization; its very disappointing right now." Kessel added, "Obviously the fans are frustrated, [but] the players are more frustrated than they are. Were trying; nothings going right. Myself, Ive been struggling to score goals, just not getting it done." 4. Carlyles meticulous style of matching lines has required some adjustment for those on the Leaf bench. "Youve got to be attentive obviously," Clarke MacArthur told TSN.ca on Tuesday morning. "Its not like your regular rotation where youre going, sitting for three [shifts] and then going again. Whenever that [opposing] line jumps back out there, youve got to get out there. It keeps you more alert on the bench." In some instances, shift-length can be brief, all depending of course on the matchup. "There are shifts where you get five, 10 seconds and then youll come off and then boom youll go right back out. He likes to get his matches; youve just got to be ready." 5. MacArthurs ice-time has risen considerably under Carlyle, up to an average of about 19 minutes per game prior to the game against the Hurricanes. "I think maybe," he told TSN.ca of earning the new coachs trust. "It all depends night-to-night with who youre checking against too. If youre checking that line thats going to play a lot, youre going to play a lot. [Dave] Steckels seen that the last few games where hes played 20-plus minutes. Its just about doing the job against whoever youre matched up against." Success was not there on Tuesday. MacArthur and linemates Mikhail Grabovski and Matt Frattin were matched against the Hurricanes second unit of Jussi Jokinen, Jeff Skinner, and Tuomo Ruutu. They were on the ice for all three Carolina goals, not helped by an off-night from Gustavsson. Bonus Points The Leafs were shutout for the fourth time in Carlyles short tenure... MacArthur (shoulder) joined Frattin (ankle) and Mike Brown (knee) in returning from injury on Tuesday. MacArthur and Frattin missed two games apiece while Brown was sidelined the past nine... MacArthur has gone 11 games without a goal... John-Michael Liles has just four points in the last 27 games after totaling 21 in 34 games before a neck injury sidelined him in mid-December... The last time the Leafs went winless in 10 straight at home was in the 1987-1988 season, an 0-7-4 stretch from mid-December to late January. ' ' '
